Daedalus AVR is a team of 12 students in grades 9-12 from Ideaventions Academy, a private school in Reston, VA, participating in the Bell Advanced Vertical Robotics competition.

Why?

In 2022, I started this team out of a need to share my passion for aerial robotics with my friends and the talented students at Ideaventions Academy for Math and Science. After competing against schools across the nation, our team grew to become a formidable force in the competition, taking 2 National/World Champion titles, and more importantly established ourselves as the premier activity for STEM leadership at Ideaventions. The challenges have ranged from engineering solutions for surveying dangerous wildfire conditions, to building a coordinated group of robots that clean up a simulated natural disaster, all requiring valuable skills that are essential in industry.

Our team in action

From 2022 to 2023, despite founding the team, I acted as the technical lead, ensuring that the drone and various other aspects of mechanical and electrical design meshed together seamlessly while working together with close friends who were extremely gifted in leadership to ensure our limited time was well spent. In my final season (2024/25), acting as Co-lead, I oversaw the team’s holistic progress and worked with another co-lead to ensure travel and scheduling were well managed.
